Nuclear Sub Strikes Object

WASHINGTON —
The nuclear-powered attack submarine Augusta sustained some damage to its hull two weeks ago in an underwater accident and has been sent back to the manufacturer in Groton, Conn., for repairs, Pentagon sources said today.
The sources said the submarine “struck something underwater” while underway submerged two weeks ago on a routine training patrol. The Navy has opened an investigation.
