Mother Teresa dedicated a hospice for AIDS victims in a Washington neighborhood where residents have angrily objected to the facility. “Let us thank God for giving us this beautiful gift, this home,” she said at a dedication Mass at the building, located on a relatively secluded hilltop surrounded by 12 acres of parkland. The Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by Mother Teresa, is establishing the home, which will house terminally ill and AIDS patients in the last stages of the disease. Residents of the neighborhood, where homes sell in the $100,000 range, have protested the plan, worrying that it will hurt their investments and stable community.
