Divers and salvage crews found 11 more bodies and recovered a key section of the Chinook helicopter that plunged into the North Sea near the Shetland Islands on Thursday, killing 45 people. David King, chief inspector of the Accident Investigation Bureau of Britain’s Department of Transport, said the one-ton front fuselage section was “the most significant piece we have recovered so far.” He said most of the 11 bodies were in the section. Investigators hope that wreckage and the helicopter’s cockpit voice recorder, recovered Friday, will provide clues to what caused the world’s worst civilian helicopter accident. Only two people survived the crash.
