The first supply shipment from the United States for Nicaraguan rebels has arrived quietly in Honduras.

A C-130 cargo plane loaded with what sources said was food and ammunition landed more than a week ago at Palmerola Air Base.

However, Adolfo Calero, head of the largest contra group, the Nicaraguan Democratic Force, said: “The help still has not arrived in our hands.” Calero expects to receive some of the aid this week.

The $100 million in new U.S. aid includes the first congressionally approved, overt military aid to the rebels, known as contras.
