Toxic waste that poured into the Rhine River 10 days ago after a fire at a factory in Switzerland reached the North Sea today.

A Dutch waterways official said the first signs of the waste were detected at the Hook of Holland on the coast. It will take four days for all the pollution to reach the sea, he added. Tons of pesticides, mercury and other chemicals poured into the river at Basel, Switzerland, after a fire at the plant.
