Four people being held in connection with the shooting of a Stanton man were released early Wednesday after questioning by detectives, police said.

Officers, responding to a report of a shooting victim, found Anthony Jones, 25, lying in the northbound lanes of Beach Boulevard about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Police Lt. David Bunts said.

Jones, who was wounded in the neck and upper body, was taken to UCI Medical Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition Wednesday, Bunts said.

Officers located a suspect “vehicle,” reportedly connected to the shooting, parked outside a room at the Golden West Motel in south Stanton, Bunts said.

“Individuals observed through the front window of the room matched the description of the suspects,” Bunts said in a statement. “These subjects were taken from the room after phone contact was made.”

The four, whose names were not released, were taken to the police station for questioning and released by 8 a.m., Capt. Leonard Haworth said.

An investigation is continuing.
