High immigration rates to the United States may leave whites of European origin in the minority a century from now, a private population group reported. Today’s low birth rates, coupled with immigration put at 1 million people annually--legal and illegal--could mean that Latinos, blacks and Asians will constitute more than half the U.S. population by the year 2080, the nonprofit Population Reference Bureau said in its report, “Immigration to the U.S.: The Unfinished Story.” Latinos were expected to make up 23.4% of the population, blacks 14.7% and Asians and other groups 12.1%.
