South El Monte : Construction Ban Extended

Share

The City Council has extended a moratorium on apartment construction through mid-December to allow time to discuss and adopt rules governing new buildings.

In late October, the council responded to neighborhood complaints of overcrowding and parking problems by voting to halt the issuance of permits to build apartments for 30 days.

The council now has extended that ban and scheduled a public hearing for Dec. 2 to discuss what can be done to ease the impact of new apartments.

South El Monte now has 765 units in multifamily buildings, with eight more projects in the works, said Planning Director Thomas Lamb.
