Lt. Col. Robert J. Garner has been named the new commander of a Sea Knight helicopter squadron based at the Tustin Marine Corps Air Station, a Marine Corps spokeswoman said.

Garner, 40, will assume his new post next Wednesday in a ceremony at the Tustin base, Staff Sgt. Vicky Conkel Turney said. He replaces Lt. Col. Michael D. Butler, who becomes commander of Marine Aircraft Group 16, also based at Tustin.

Garner’s previous assignments include service in Vietnam; Quantico, Va.; the Mediterranean, and Santa Ana, where he was briefly assigned in 1970 to another helicopter squadron, Turney said.
