6th Storm Forms as Season for Hurricanes Nears End

MIAMI —
A tropical storm formed in the Atlantic Ocean almost 1,000 miles off the U.S. mainland Wednesday, the sixth storm of the hurricane season, which officially ends the last of this month. The storm’s 50-m.p.h. winds were a threat only to shipping, the National Hurricane Center said.
