Deputy Attorneys
Your article (Oct. 26) on the “crisis situation” in the judicial system resulting from our recent drug crackdown program is to be commended for its scope and insight into a critical problem. However, you do a major disservice to the 400 prosecutors who are not assigned to a special unit, but who instead daily staff the criminal courts throughout Los Angeles County.
By characterizing these prosecutors as “lower level” deputies, you suggest that they are somehow inferior to their special unit colleagues. Nothing could be further from the truth. These line deputies--on a daily basis--perform the core work of the district attorney’s office. Their professionalism and commitment to the citizens of Los Angeles County--as well as their legal skills--are of the highest caliber.
