‘Cheating of the Elderly’

Your editorial (Nov. 10), “Cheating of the Elderly,” has provided an alert.

One of the primary reasons for the increase in Medi-Gap insurance sales can be directly attributed to our government and its lack of concern and care for the elderly in America today. Many supplemental insurance policies are, of course, excellent and meet the needs of the elderly. While your editorial explains the method of operation of these charlatans peddling their bogus insurance, I think you should inform the readers just what has led to the making of these elderly people such pawns for these crooks.

I think you should inform the readers that our President, Ronald Reagan, seems to be the enemy of the old, the sick, and the poor.

For example, the most recent increase that has just become law was at President Reagan’s insistance and calls for a 15% increase. It should be explained to the readers what this 15% means. For example, in the way of background, Reagan raised the required hospital co-payment (that’s the amount individuals must pay which is not covered by Medicare) from the existing $204 to a whopping $492. This recent 15% he has asked for and has received translates into a new co-payment figure of $500.
