About 90,000 commuters around Columbus scrambled for transportation as bus drivers and mechanics struck the Central Ohio Transit Authority. The 630-member Transport Workers local wants a 15% raise over three years and a reversal of benefit cuts. Mari-jean Porterfield of the transit agency said an unfair labor practice charge was filed with the state because the union did not give the require 10-day strike notice. If the board rules in favor of the agency, replacement drivers can be fired.
