Poland should have a balanced budget next year for the first time since 1981, but its foreign debt of $33.4 billion will continue to grow, Finance Minister Bazyli Samojlik told Parliament on Tuesday.

“The projected surplus of $1 billion will not permit full payment of interest, and the (foreign) debt may exceed $35 billion,” Samojlik said.

He said the government plans to balance the budget by cutting government subsidies and reducing inflation from its present level of 18%.
