Iran Says It Caused Cutthroat Politics
The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament said Thursday that American politicians were “cutting each other’s throats” over the Iran arms affair and that Tehran deserves credit for sowing discord in the United States.
According to the official Islamic Republic news agency, Hashemi Rafsanjani said, “There is more to say about this issue (U.S. arms for Iran) which we will clarify later.”
Rafsanjani claimed Iran was responsible for pitting Democrats and Republicans against each other so “they were now cutting each other’s throats.”
“Over the past two centuries the British and the Americans were the ones who ridiculed other countries and by sowing discord among the leaders created crises for the sake of their own ambitions,” Rafsanjani reportedly told a group of military commanders. “But now we are paying the U.S. back in its own coin.”
