Preserve Records of Iran Arms Deal, U.S. Employees Told
White House employees and National Security Council staff members were ordered today to “preserve any and all records” and give full cooperation to a two-pronged investigation arising from revelations of secret arms deals with Iran.
White House spokesman Dan Howard said a memorandum to this effect, signed by White House counsel Peter Wallison, is being distributed in Washington.
“It acknowledges the fact there is a Justice Department investigation and a special committee set up and tells all the White House staff and the NSC staff to cooperate fully, to preserve any and all records, everything down to telephone logs, whatever, and make all the information available to both of these groups,” Howard said.
The memo did not mention congressional investigations.
Howard said the memo was not prompted by any reluctance on the part of White House or NSC staff people to cooperate.
“It is simply to assure the staff that they have instructions to cooperate,” he said.
