The American Federation of Railroad Police announced a $10-million lawsuit against Amtrak because its members are forced to throw the homeless out of New York City’s Pennsylvania Station each night in an “inhumane” policy damaging to police morale. If the police do not comply, they “are subject to criminal and civil liability,” Erick Larsen, union attorney, said at a Penn Station news conference to announce that the suit was filed 10 days ago in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. The lawsuit asks the court to enjoin Amtrak from enforcing the policy and asks for $10 million in damages.
