The U.S. decision to break the SALT II nuclear arms treaty by deploying its 131st B-52 bomber capable of carrying nuclear-tipped cruise missiles continued to meet with general disapproval by its allies. On Friday, Britain, West Germany, Canada and the Netherlands issued statements deploring the action. They were joined by France, Belgium and Sweden, which all found the decision regrettable. And an editorial in Tokyo’s English-language Asahi Evening News called on President Reagan “to reconsider and refrain from renouncing SALT II.”
