Three American Roman Catholic clergymen, ending a weeklong visit to Chile, said they sensed a climate of fear and repression in the country. Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, of Chicago, also expressed concern over the expulsion of foreign missionaries and raids on the homes of parish priests. Bernardin and Bishops Joseph Fiorenza of Galveston, Tex., and Ricardo Ramirez of Las Cruces, N.M., said they heard numerous accounts of torture and intimidation. They made the remarks in a statement.
