Thousands of Ugandan refugees have returned home following attacks last May on refugee camps in southern Sudan, according to a U.N. official.

Willie Young, Kampala representative of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, told the government-owned newspaper New Vision that a total of 108,000 refugees had come back and were being properly resettled.

“The returnees so far resettled are getting on well, growing food and building houses,” he said.

Young said 176,000 Ugandans currently living in Sudan and Zaire will be resettled in the West Nile region by February.
