South Carolina Tides: $1 Million in Damage

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. —
High tides crashed over 10-foot seawalls and washed out swimming pools at two condominium complexes south of here Monday, causing an $1 million in damage.
At the Sea Crest Motel on South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island, the tide eroded about six feet of beach, crumbled a wall and loosened decking around a motel pool and undermined the pool pump house, hotel clerk Jim Brown said.
“We had some people come in today and ask for an ocean-front room--we asked them how much ocean did they want,” he said.
