More than 30 women professors at the University of California, Berkeley, have told Chancellor Ira Michael Heyman that sexual violence in campus dormitories is a serious problem. The professors wrote Heyman saying that the school mishandled an alleged sexual assault case involving four members of the football team. The university “demonstrates a lack of moral leadership,” the letter charged. The four players involved in the alleged attack in September were questioned by campus police, who recommended prosecution. The Alameda County district attorney’ office declined, saying there was not enough evidence. The players and the woman reached an agreement that called for the men to apologize, take counseling and perform community service.
