DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania —
The Tanzanian government has banned the sale and export of ivory, the Department of Information said Tuesday.
It said dealers have been given until Dec. 30 to deliver elephant tusks and carved ivory to the Tanzanian wildlife authorities. The sale and export of rhino horn already is prohibited in Tanzania.
The move is aimed at protecting elephants from poachers.
