The tail end of the storms that have swept across the nation all week triggered flooding along the Atlantic coast, damaging buildings on New York’s Fire Island and causing an estimated $6 million in destruction in the Carolinas. The storms dumped 17 inches of snow on the Rockies and Plains as they moved east, spreading rain, sleet and snow over Atlantic coast states before heading out to sea.
