Vietnam Memorial Panels Cracked, to Be Removed

WASHINGTON —
Two panels of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial were removed for inspection Wednesday to determine what caused them to develop hairline cracks. Samples of the memorial’s concrete retaining wall and the panels of polished, black granite will be examined microscopically, a spokesman for the memorial said.
