The Army is testing a machine that can rapidly dig temporary battlefield graves in wartime and other emergencies until bodies of casualties can be processed and shipped for final burial, officials at Ft. Belvoir, Va., said. The Army’s Development & Engineering Center, reporting on studies by the Quartermaster School, said that three or four of the machines could dig “more than 200 graves during an average 10-hour shift.”
