Nearly 100 South Korean human rights workers and dissidents shouted slogans and staged a courtroom demonstration after a court in Inchon imposed a 1 1/2-year prison term on a former student charged with using another person’s identity card to get a factory job. The defendant, Kwon In Sook, 23, had accused the police of sexually molesting her by beating her about the breasts during questioning after she was arrested during a riot in Inchon. A police sergeant was dismissed and three senior officers were relieved of their posts. Kwon said she sought the factory job to help mistreated workers obtain their rights.
