Hospital Fined for Early Heart Transplant Surgery

NEW YORK —
Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York state’s only approved heart transplant facility, faces thousands of dollars in fines because the first transplant operation there was performed before certification was received, a spokesman for the state Health Department said Friday. He said there was no indication of improper procedure in the surgery, which was done on Aug. 27.
