Poland’s leader Wojciech Jaruzelski formed a 56-member council whose mostly non-Communist participants will look for ways to pull the country out of its economic crisis. Members include former Solidarity activists, university professors, former Roman Catholic deputies to Parliament, economic experts and Communist activists, the PAP news agency reported. Dissidents, including Lech Walesa, founder of the outlawed Solidarity union, said the council is aimed at weakening the political opposition. Walesa was not named to the panel.
