An investigation of whether a 4-day-old boy died when the oxygen supply was shut off to infants in a Denver hospital has been widened to include the deaths of at least two other infants, police said. Officials said they are trying to determine whether the infants in Newborn Center in Children’s Hospital died because a valve was closed on the fresh oxygen supply to the center on Nov. 29, leaving 19 critically ill babies in incubators without supplemental oxygen for about two minutes. The hospital has given conflicting statements about why the valve shut off, whether by mechanical failure, intentionally or by mistake.
