Accused Jewish terrorist Ira Rappaport surrendered to police at Ben-Gurion International Airport upon returning to Israel from the United States. Israeli police claim that the U.S.-born Rappaport participated in attacks against Palestinians on the Israeli-occupied West Bank and helped plant the car bomb in 1980 that maimed Nablus Mayor Bassam Shaka. When members of the so-called Jewish Underground were arrested in 1984, Rappaport was in the United States. Israeli police did not request his extradition but reportedly reached an agreement with him, promising to take into consideration his voluntary surrender.
