U.S. Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger announced the awarding of $10.1 million more in Strategic Defense Initiative contracts to the British Ministry of Defense, bringing to $34 million the value of the British government’s participation in the “Star Wars” program. The awarding of the contracts was announced in London after a meeting with British Defense Secretary George Younger. Most of the contracts are for research into systems intended to defend Europe against short-range missiles.
