A Miami jury awarded a former high school athlete more than $210,000 in a lawsuit she filed after her track career ended when doctors operated on the wrong knee.

A Dade County jury made the award to Rosalind Russell, a member of the state champion 400-meter relay team and the girls’ basketball team at Miami Edison High School who injured her left knee in 1983 while long jumping in a track meet.

The verdict went against Miami Children’s Hospital, where the surgery was performed, Dr. Arthur Pearl and nurses who performed the surgery, and the Dade County School Board.
