BACK ON THE BOARDS
After some 20 years away from Broadway (“Camelot” in the early ‘60s), Julie Andrews is mulling an offer to star in the Kurt Weill/Ira Gershwin/Moss Hart musical from the ‘40s, “Lady in the Dark.”
Through a publicist, Andrews, currently with her family in Switzerland, confirmed the discussions but stressed that everything is “in the very early stages.” But she “would be interested.”
If the show ever gets on the boards, there would be some notable coincidences: Gertrude Lawrence originally played “Lady in the Dark” on Broadway. Andrews played Gertrude Lawrence in the the 1968 movie “Star!” Moss Hart, who wrote the book for “Lady in the Dark,” directed Andrews in both “My Fair Lady” and “Camelot.”
