NUTS AND BOLTS

“MOSAIC,” Wang Chung. Geffen. Everything from this English band’s vacuous name to the equally vacuous music it produces sounds as if it was dreamed up in some corporate conference room. Bland songs, bland arrangements, bland vocals--after a while you almost wish Wang Chung really was some sort of frozen Chinese dinner instead of an inexplicably popular band with an insipid Top 40 single (“Everybody Have Fun Tonight”). “Mosaic” flashes a lot of layered, state-of-the-art studio technique. But what this new-wave pop-disco needs is more flesh and blood and less nuts and bolts.
