Beverly Beyette’s article about working women and career-parent conflicts is a sad commentary on the ‘80s woman. She has bought the Madison Avenue myth that we can have it all (career, family) at the same time.
As a former nursery school teacher, I worked with many children of two-career families. Some children did fine in an all-day child-care situation. Most did not. Many, in my opinion, were too young for this type of day care.
As a former teacher, I found that even working part-time made it difficult to function as both teacher and primary care-giver to my three school-aged children.
The women’s movement has accomplished many things for both women and men. Unfortunately, it has not taught us how to create 48-hour days.
