Good Cheer and Liberty to All

I am thoroughly disgusted by the article “What To Get For the Pet Who Has Everything” (View, Dec. 22). If the status-conscious, materialistic people who buy the merchandise described in the article really cared about animals, they would donate the money to one of the many worthwhile, needy humane organizations instead of throwing away from $2,900 to $11,000 for an English manor or Swiss chalet dog house (not to mention the gem-encrusted Egyptian cat temple for $1.1 million).

The saddest part is that the pets of these ostentatious people would be perfectly happy, as mine are, with the standard food and shelter, a couple of simple toys and lots of love and attention.
