Police have seized $3 million worth of heroin in the country's most serious case of heroin smuggling, the official New China News Agency reported Thursday.

It said police arrested a Thai and two Hong Kong Chinese last August for trying to smuggle 50 pounds of heroin from the Golden Triangle near Thailand through Canton to Hong Kong.

The agency said the three men have appeared in court in Kunming in southern China and will be punished.
