Iran Claims 3,000 Iraqis Killed

NICOSIA, Cyprus —
Iran today claimed its troops killed 3,000 Iraqi soldiers in an offensive on the southern front. Iraq reported heavy fighting starting Wednesday night but said Iraqi troops repulsed the Iranian attack and wiped out “thousands” of Iranian soldiers. The fighting appeared to have eased today.
