Regarding your editorial, “Boost for the Best,” the country might be better off if the appeal of serving in the Congress and the Cabinet was based on advancing the public welfare rather than piling up the big bucks. Furthermore, high salaries hardly guarantee wonderful performance. Consider what the highly paid top brass did for the American auto industry. . . .
