Silent Emergency Needs Voicing

I was very moved when I read your article. I agree with UNICEF’s “State of the World’s Children Report 1987” that it is absurd and obscene to let 280,000 children die each week who could be saved with low-cost health and prevention programs.

I’m grateful that I was born in an industrialized nation that automatically vaccinated me as a child, that taught my parents how to feed and care for me so that I would grow up to be healthy and intelligent enough to write this letter.

The numbers can be mind-boggling, but each child is a potential mother, father, teacher, farmer, doctor, if given the opportunity of life. It has been said that there is an obvious relationship between the mental and physical development of children and the social and economic development of nations. How wonderful to contribute to the potential of our world.
