Residents of the Byelorussian village of Gden, evacuated in April after the disaster at the nearby Chernobyl nuclear power plant that contaminated their community, have returned home, the official Soviet news agency Tass reported. The agency did not say how many residents returned to the village, near the Ukrainian border and 7 1/2 miles north of the plant that was the scene of the world’s worst nuclear disaster last April 26. The residents of Gden are among about 1,500 evacuees who have returned recently to 12 villages in the Gomel district of Byelorussia, Tass said.
