Three East Germans escaped safely across the border to West Germany, a Bavarian state police spokesman said in Munich. The three scaled the border fences near Coburg, 30 miles northwest of Bayreuth, said the spokesman, who refused to be identified. They apparently were not spotted by Communist East German border guards, who have orders to fire on escapees. The spokesman refused to give the East Germans’ names but said they were between 18 and 25 years old. Escapees rarely are identified because of fear of reprisals against relatives left behind.
