Israel Again Stops Ferry Bound for Lebanon
An Israeli gunboat stopped a Cypriot passenger ferry bound for the Lebanese port of Juniyah on Saturday, despite a protest from Cyprus after a similar incident Friday, port officials said.
The Empress was stopped off the Lebanese coast, officials in Juniyah said but was allowed to proceed after the gunboat’s captain was told that only crewmen were aboard.
The incident came as Cyprus was protesting to Israel for stopping a Juniyah-bound ferry on Friday and forcing it to turn back to Larnaca because Israel suspected that Palestinian guerrillas were on board.
