US Sprint opened a national fiber-optic link.

The No. 3 long-distance carrier began service with the new year, offering high-quality voice and data transmission over the nation’s first coast-to-coast fiber-optic network. No. 2 carrier MCI Telecommunications said it expects to offer similar service later this month.
