A snowstorm that dumped up to 3 1/2 feet of snow on the mountains of the West closed schools in northern Arizona today and snarled traffic in Utah, but it proved a blessing to snow-starved ski resorts that have lost millions of dollars in business.

“Incredible! That’s what it can do when it wants to. This should put everybody in business now that hasn’t been, and those that have been in business should be in better shape,” National Weather Service meteorologist William Alder said in Salt Lake City.
