“Chess: A Winner’s Strategy.” Mid-Metro. $26.95. This is not a cassette to teach you how to play one of the oldest board games in history--beginners need not apply. If, however, you have the fundamentals down and can hold your own in friendly games (or tournaments), this half-hour tape might be worth a look. Chess master Jeremy Silman’s winning system is explained clearly. He concentrates on this warlike game’s ideas--grabbing territory, garnering firepower, creating advantages and taking advantage of your opponent’s weaknesses. Explaining the concepts is done well, but the actual play is much too fast, with minimal commentary. Nice graphics. Lousy titles. Information: (213) 664-8046.
