Accused killer Daniel David Morgan, who was shot and wounded last April during a stunning San Francisco courtroom assault by the father of his victim, pleaded guilty just hours before he was to stand trial. San Francisco Public Defender Ron Albers said his client, who faced a possible death sentence for shooting Sarah Spiegelman, 17, in the head in 1983, pleaded guilty in exchange for a sentence of 27 years to life in the Atascadero State Hospital. Morgan could receive an additional 12 years for the attempted murder of the teen-ager’s boyfriend, Dwion Gates, who was shot along with Spiegelman as they strolled through Golden Gate Park. The girl’s father, Jack Spiegelman of Los Angeles, who shot and wounded Morgan during an earlier hearing, is to stand trial Jan. 20 on attempted murder charges.
