Iran Seeks Change of Islamic Summit Venue

Iran has formally asked the Organization of the Islamic Conference not to hold a summit meeting in Kuwait later this month because of its support for Iraq in the Persian Gulf War, Tehran radio said Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, in a message delivered to the organization’s Secretary General Sharifuddin Pirzada, said Iran “declares that it is opposed in principle to the holding of the fifth ICO summit in Kuwait,” the radio said.
