Italian Will Attend Klinghoffer Memorial
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Arnaldo Forlani plans to attend a memorial service in Israel today for Leon Klinghoffer, the New Yorker killed in the October, 1985, hijacking of the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro.
Forlani, a Christian Democrat who headed a coalition government from October, 1980 to May, 1981, is making the visit at the invitation of the Jewish National Fund and the Israeli government, his office announced.
During the visit, Forlani will meet with President Chaim Herzog, Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and will meet a group of Israelis of Italian origin.
